What a strong name. Ryder Nathan! We did this shoot at the client’s home. I normally do this with all my newborns as I like to have those first few days after hospital as peaceful as possible without mom having to worry about car trips and disruptions. Nathan was just over a week when I photographed him. I have become very good at quickly realizing what kind of temperament a baby has within the first few minutes of meeting him/her. All babies are different and you have to treat each one accordingly. Some love to be wrapped and swaddled others like their arms out and free. Some are strong willed and want to be awake to see what is going on and others sleep through any clicking sound. The most important thing is having the patience to work with each baby and give them what they need and when. I am extremely gentle with each baby I photograph and I don’t like babies to cry on my clock unless it is for a feed, change or love from mom. A newborn shoot can never be rushed. It has to be a peaceful serene setting with lots of warmth and loving moms arms and milk nearby.
Here are a few photos from the shoot. Nathan was strong, alert and not having much of the sleep and be photographed stuff so we topped him up with a bit more milk and some mom’s loving arms and we got our photographs. It is all about timing and patience.
